Kyle B. Johnson, age 66, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 5:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Roseville Nursing and Rehab Center in Roseville, Illinois. He was born November 21, 1957 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Eugene and Marjorie (Morford) Johnson. Kyle was reared and educated in Monmouth, where he graduated from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1975. While in high school, Kyle excelled in baseball, even playing many years of softball in Leagues in the area.
Kyle worked several jobs in the area over the course of his career; Huski-Bilt in Monmouth, both Cottage Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg, MSI in Galesburg, Danny’s Tap in Monmouth, and Advanced Plumbing in Monmouth. His last job was on the crew that mowed the City of Monmouth Cemetery. He was an avid mushroom hunter, and oh, the stories he could tell! Kyle was a huge fan of just about any sport imaginable; he most enjoyed Indiana University Basketball, Indianapolis Colts Football, and anyone that knew Kyle, knew of his passion for St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. Kyle loved spending time with his family, and with the many friends he met over the years.
Kyle is survived by two sisters, Sandra (Albie) Huff and Kathy (Jerry) Glasgow, one half-sister, Tammy Keegan, nieces Kristin (Paul) Hallahan, Mary (DJ Cook) Huff, Jenny (Dusty) Frazier, and Sara (Jason) Whitaker, his nephew Brian (Debbie) Glasgow, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving is one uncle, Freddie Johnson. Kyle’s family would also like to recognize Jeff Pearce as Kyle’s best friend, who went above and beyond helping his friend in countless ways. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Mark Johnson.
As were Kyle’s wishes, cremation is being accorded and no services are being planned. Kyle’s family will plan a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and announced as the service approaches.
