Following a Truth and Taxation hearing, the United Board of Education approved the levy, explains Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt:

“We held a Truth and Taxation hearing. We are asking for a little more than the five percent that we received last year. By law we are obligated to hold a hearing and jumping ahead, we did approve the levy. We have a projected rate, that is not ours to set. We will ask for a set amount of money. We are abating $300,000 of our bond payment too that we will pay for out of our facilities sales tax proceeds. I love the way our Board goes about the levy. They are very conscious of our taxpayers, but they are extremely conscious of what our needs are too. I feel like we are very fair. We stay right down that middle and shoot to keep that rate as constant as possible. Some years, like this year, is to the school districts benefit. It will garner us a little bit more money because of what the EAV has done. We set a levy that nobody’s rate should increase, in fact I think most people will see a little bit of a decrease.”

Superintendent Whitsitt reports the United school district operates on a $10.5 million budget.
