City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation Holiday Hours
The City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation will have holiday hours on December 31, 2023 and January 1, 2024. Sunday, December 31, 2023 Hawthorne Municipal Pool will be closed. Lakeside Recreation Facility and Administrative Office hours on December 31, 2023 will be from 1-4:00 p.m. for the office, four indoor tennis courts and the two multi-purpose courts from 1-4:00p.m. All recreation facilities and offices will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024. Teams can enroll in the annual I-74 Basketball Tournament scheduled in February 2024. This tournament is an annual favorite, especially since it is centrally located in Galesburg, IL. The I-74 tournaments are open to both recreational and travel teams. Teams can expect plenty of play time with a three game guarantee. Tournaments are grouped by gender and grade. The Girls Tournament weekend is February 3rd-4th, 2024, and the Boys Tournament is February 10th-11th, 2024. Early bird registration ends on January 8th, 2024 to get the best deal with a fee of $165 per team. Final Registration ends January 22, 2024 with a team fee of $195 per team. Winter Break Special Swims, Open Swim, Lane Swim and Aquatic Fitness
Stay active in the water this winter at the City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation Indoor Aquatic Facility, Hawthorne Municipal Pool, with open swim, lane swim or aquatic fitness. Hawthorne Municipal Pool is a 45 x 100 foot traditional pool open to the general public. There are numerous aquatic programs for infants to senior citizens. Programs include, but are not limited to Aquatic Group Fitness classes, Learn to Swim lessons, Lane Swimming, Open Swimming, and Splash Party Rentals. Early morning lane swim and open swims are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-8:00 a.m. and 4-6:00 p.m. Aquatic Fitness is available Monday through Friday 8-9 a.m. There is also an Aqua-Zumba class 9-10 a.m. and Aqua-Motion class 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Friday, December 27th and Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 there will be special open swims from 1-4 p.m. with the festive and fun inflatable WiBit. Admission will be $5.00. Creative Connection for Teens will hold a special night glow swim for teens only on Friday, January 5th, 2024 from 7-9:00 p.m. for $5 per teen. There will also be a special School Day Out WiBit Swim on Monday, January 15th, 2024 on Matin Luther King Jr. Day with a $5 admission. Splash Parties – Hawthorne Municipal Pool

Hawthorne Municipal Pool is the perfect place for a pool party. Reservations are now being taken for Splash Parties at Hawthorne Municipal Pool. Rentals may include an inflatable WiBit (Full or partial) for additional fun. The fee is $90 per hour, with a two hour minium for up to 35 swimmers, or $130 per hour, with a two hour minimum, for 35-50 swimmers. The reserved time includes all time in the facility. It is never too late to learn how to swim. Adult swim lessons are offered by the City of Galesburg Recreation Department at Hawthorne Municipal Pool. Adults, ages 17 and up, can register for swim lessons to become more comfortable in, on and around the water. Instructors will review essential water safety skills and teach basic swim instruction to help develop safe swimming and to enhance overall health and fitness. Discover what is under the frozen lake, and uncover ways aquatic life survive when the water freezes with the City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation nature staff. Weather permitting, there may be ice fishing, as an additional activity. Bring your own fishing equipment, as there is a limited supply. Class is held outdoors at the Lakeside Nature Center Shelter, with a nature walk through the woods, so dress for the weather. This is a free program for all ages with different topics every second Saturday of the month. There will still be a program if there is no ice so head out to the Lakeside Nature Center for exploration and adventure. This is a great family program. No pre-registration is required. Join the City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation for hand-on fun and exploratory activities with your child at Lakeside Nature Center with this month’s “SNOW Much Fun” theme. Participants will enjoy the winter theme of snow, the best part of the winter season. There will be some hands-on fun in the snow. If there is no snow on the ground, participants can be prepared to create their own. There will be a winter walk scavenger hunt, informaiotn about animals in the winter animal tracks and much more. Registration ends on December 8th, 2023.

If you had a blast with the Mobile Playground at local parks this summer, or are ready to be active once again then look no further. The Mobile Playground is moving indoors with more fun and toys, such as jumbo yard games, playground toys, sports equipment and more. Staff will have a variety of toys and activities set up to challenge and entertain kiddos, and adults. Who doesn’t enjoy a good game of giant frisbee or jumbo Connect 4? Each week will feature a large game, such as an inflatable game or obstacle course, or fun guests with special activities. Pre-registration is encouraged, but drop ins allowed, as space permits. Please register each person individually. The cost is $4.00 for a daily admission for ages 12 and under; ages 2 and under are free. The Indoor Mobile Playground is available on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 pm. This is set up for 3-12 years of age. Private rentals are also available for groups which include a Basic Rental or Private Rental, and premium add on options with an inflatable.

Private lessons are $25 per session for private instruction or $40 per session for Semi Private (2 participants) instruction available on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3-7:00 p.m. Each session is 1 hour long.

Batting Cage and Golf Simulator Reservations

The City of Galesburg Parks and Recreation has the perfect solution for batting and golf practice this winter. Lakeside Recreation Facility is taking reservations so call 309-345-3683 to ensure a time slot. The rental fee for the batting cage is $30 per hour per court at Lakeside Recreation Facility. The Indoor Golf Simulator is $25 per hour at Hawthorne Gymnasium, with reservations by the number of holes as well.. Estimated times are 9 hours for 2 hours and 18 holes for 3-4 hours. Driving range 30-60 minutes. The simulator schedule times are Mondays and Thursdays from 4-6 p .m., Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Thur. Times are also available from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays. Golf Simulator reservations must be made a minimum of 5 days in advance. Golfers should bring their own clubs. No cleats in the Gymnasium, and only the golf simulator balls on-site can be used. Reservations can be made Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 1-6:00 p .m.
