William Edward Sandidge, 76, of Galesburg, Illinois, died November 30, 2023 at home. Bill was born June 21, 1947 in Galesburg to the late Eugene F. and Lillian J. (Snook) Sandidge.
Not long after graduating from high school, Bill enlisted in the US Army serving from 1966 until he was honorably discharged in 1972. Bill had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. From 1969 to 1975, Bill worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. He later served as the Chief of Police in Avon, Illinois from 1986 to 1990. Bill also served parttime as a police officer in New Windsor, Illinois. Bill went on to work as a Private Investigator and in security, lastly working at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, retiring in 2013.
Bill is survived by a dear friend, Marge Renwick of Galesburg. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded by his partner of many years, Ethel M. Curtis on December 10, 2020.
Bill was a proud member of Alpha Lodge A.F. & A.M. #155, was a 32nd degree in the Peoria Consistory, and the El-Bon Shrine Club. He was a longtime member of the Illinois Police Association and the Illinois Chiefs of Police.
Cremation has been accorded. Private services with military rites were held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
