Carl Sandburg College Men Fall to John Wood in Regulation, Women Lose in Triple Overtime.

The Carl Sandburg College men and women’s basketball teams both lost close contests on Sunday at John Lewis Gymnasium against John Wood Community College. The Chargers men would take a 30-22 lead into the halftime break, but a strong second half from John Wood would seal the 66-58 loss for Sandburg. The Chargers fall to 10-8 with the loss and will be at Black Hawk College this Thursday for a 7:00 PM matchup with the Braves.

The Sandburg women were also in action on Sunday, also taking on John Wood. The Lady Chargers would go all the way into three overtime periods with the Blazers, ultimately falling in a tough 96-93 battle. Former Abingdon-Avon Tornado girls basketball standout Brook Pieper led the way with 27 points, while Former Monmouth-Roseville Titan standout Kelci Shelton added in 22. Barring a cancellation due to winter weather, the 12-4 Sandburg women will take on Sauk Valley at 5:30 PM on Tuesday.
