Illinois is facing its first big snowstorm of the year. As Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards stresses the importance of staying home, he adds that if you must venture out of your home, its important to be prepared for the cold, even inside your vehicle.
“It’s kind of ridiculous how many people we encounter out on the road, that have gone off the road, that are in everything from flip flops to just to windbreakers with no coats, boots, gloves, and things like that,” said Edwards. “We have had some bad storms in the last few years where people are stuck in their car for several hours because realize we’re not driving anything much different than what you are as far as a four-wheel drive and then sometimes it becomes impossible because of visibility or road blockage to get there.”
Sheriff Edwards adds that if you must drive during a winter storm, make sure to have blankets, candle, food stock, water, and warm clothes in your car in case of emergency.
