Hoy, Beach Post Career Highs in Points in Scots Loss

MONMOUTH, ILL. (01/06/2024) The Monmouth College women’s basketball team got career highs from Allie Hoy (Woodland, Illinois) and Danielle Beach (Geneseo, Illinois) but lost at Beloit College 63-48 on Saturday.

Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Illinois) opened the scoring on Monmouth’s first possession and made another jumper to tie the game at 4-4. Beloit scored the next 13 points to take a 17-4 lead before Hoy ended the run with a bucket. Beach scored a coast-to-coast layup. Hoy knocked down a 3-pointer at the end of the quarter to cut Beloit’s lead to 19-10.

Beach and Hoy combined to score Monmouth’s first six points of the second quarter to trim the lead to six. Beloit scored before Averi Rangel (Moline, Illinois) hit a 3-pointer and Beach added a free throw. The Buccaneers scored to end the half with a 30-20 lead.

The hosts scored the first six points of the third quarter before Ella Goodrich (Minonk, Illinois) knocked down a 3-pointer. Beach made another layup before Beloit extended the lead to 43-25. Mitchell made a pair of free throws, as did Delaney Scheidenhelm (New Berlin, Illinois). Hoy finished the quarter with a jumper to cut Beloit’s lead to 49-31.

Mitchell and Beach started the fourth quarter with baskets but Beloit answered with four points of their own. Goodrich made a bucket and two free throws before the hosts extended the lead to 57-39. Beach and Goodrich scored again and Hoy knocked down another 3-pointer but Beloit scored four straight for a 63-46 lead. Hoy scored the last points of the game with 10 seconds to play.

Hoy led the Scots with 15 points while Beach had 11, both career highs. Goodrich added nine points and Mitchell has eight. Hoy also led the Scots with eight rebounds, one more than Beach.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Hoy’s previous career high in points was nine on Wednesday. She has made at least one 3-pointer in three straight games and five of the last seven. Beach’s previous career high was 10 points against Dominican and she also scored nine on Wednesday. The Scots out-rebounded Beloit 35-34. Beloit won in Monmouth 54-42 last month… Monmouth and Beloit split last season with the home team winning both games. The Scots are 8-3 in the last 11 against the Bucs and 37-25 all-time. The Scots play home on Wednesday against Cornell after the 5:30 p.m. men’s game.
