Judy E. Hopson, 81, of Galesburg, died at 7:39 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at home.
She was born September 26, 1942, in Noble, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas Volney and Mary E. (Bechdoldt) Akins Jr. She married Thomas Wampler. She later married Seldon C. Hopson on September 15, 2000, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2007.
She is survived by a daughter Terri Klick of Galesburg; two sons, Colin Dale Wampler of Peoria and Roger Lee (Monica) Wampler of Nashville, Tennessee; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a sister, Rebecca (Rick) Buesking; two brothers, Tom (Jodi) Akins and Jack Akins; a sister-in-law, Sondra Akins; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles; and a sister, Mary Lee.
Judy was born and raised in Noble, Illinois, where she graduated from high school in 1961. She had lived in Galesburg since 1975. Judy was a switchboard operator all of her working life. First, she worked at the Galesburg Mental Health Center for 11 years, then at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for over 23 years before retiring. She was a member of TOPS.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Jordan Knight will officiate. Burial of her and Seldon’s remains will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
