More Snow in the Forecast for Western Illinois

Share

A winter storm watch has been issued for portions of north central, northwest, and west central Illinois as well as east central, northeast, and southeast Iowa from Thursday evening through Saturday Morning. Illinois State Climatologist Trent Ford shares more on this storm system.

“Right now the expectation is a chance of accumulating snow for much of the northern half of the state with the largest chances of significant accumulation, talking four to six inches plus, in Western/ Northern Illinois. Really very similar to the area that got nailed by this last winter storm,” explained Ford. “Once we get closer to Bloomington, Normal, Champaign, Decatur, and further south, there is a bit of a better chance of accumulating snow from this system versus the one last Friday just because the temperatures are going to be cooler. That snow may stick around a little bit longer.”

Ford adds that following this winter storm system, significant cold temperatures will move into the area, with forecasted highs in the single digits.
