The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1945 Baird Avenue today, January 22, 2024, at 10:15 AM.  The response included all three stations and the 13 personnel on duty.  Upon arrival, personnel encountered smoke and fire from the rear of the residence. Battalion Chief Brackett established command and the Brooks Street Station crew used a hose line to extinguish the bulk of the fire from the exterior before making entry. The Central Station crew established a water supply from a nearby hydrant and performed a search of the residence for any potential victims. The Fremont Street Station crew performed a secondary search.  There were no occupants inside the residence at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

An emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. The house was determined to be a total loss with preliminary damage estimates at $25,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Galesburg Fire Investigators in cooperation with the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
