Non-GMO Crops: An Opportunity to Increase Farm Revenue

Share

With grain markets not treading in ways farmers may want them to, some growers may start looking at other opportunities to increase revenue on the farm. CGB Grain Merchandiser Justin Allaman said one opportunity farmers can take advantage of is non-GMO crops.

“A lot of grain buyers, if they are set up to handle non-GMO, will pay a premium for both [non-GMO] corn and beans above the price that’s traded on the board,” said Allaman. “There are typically purchase agreements that would be written up where you would commit to a certain number of bushels, and then you would deliver in the spring or fall- whenever they want it.”

Allaman added that premium contract options such as non-GMO are a way farmers can add revenue while using systems and equipment already in place.
