On Thursday, February 15th at 7 pm in the Fine Arts Theater on the Carl Sandburg College campus in Galesburg, four Illinois-based guitar professors will take the stage during the MAGIQ Illinois Guitar Quartet concert. Being spread out across the state, ensemble member Michael Patilla shares how they prepare for their performances:
“We work really hard individually to learn our own parts. We communicate a lot through email and texting each other. We have actually had maybe two or three rehearsals together, so there is a big emphasis on learning your own part before we get together as a group. We are playing a variety of music. Some of the music is composers that people probably aren’t so familiar with, pieces that are written for that ensemble of a guitar quartet, but we are playing one piece, kind of a crowning piece at the end of the program, is very famous. You might not know it by name, but it is a very famous piece that you would recognize the music from, very famous classical music.”
Tickets for the concert are $5 and can be purchased at the door the evening of the event. Admission is free for Sandburg students, faculty, and staff with their college ID.
