Story by Kadin Rogers

The IHSA basketball regular season has ended for many of our listening area basketball programs. One of those programs is the West Central Heat boys’ basketball team, who just completed their first season under new varsity head coach Doug Dennison. Dennison joined the Heat this offseason after a 7-year stint as the head coach of the United Red Storm. West Central would finish the season with a 1-31 record, with that one coming against Hartsburg/Emden on January 6th at the Carl Sandburg College shootout. Despite the tough season in the win-loss column for the West Central Heat, Coach Dennison says the team still had many success stories in the 2023-2024 season.

West Central’s season officially ended last Monday with a loss to Peoria Christian in the Class 1A Williamsfield regional quarterfinal. For the full interview with Coach Dennison, visit the Sports Podcast section.
