Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 4, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is freshman boy’s wrestler, Landon Montroy. Landon won a regional championship in the 175-pound weight class in the Knoxville Class 1A tournament. He went (2-0) on the day. Earlier this year, Landon won the Peking Invitational also going undefeated at (4-0).

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys’ wrestler, Carter Rothzen. Carter brought home a 2nd place medal at the Class 1A Knoxville regional tournament. He went (2-1) on the day in the 285-pound weight class, qualifying him for the Olympia Sectional. Earlier this season, Carter took 6th place in the highly competitive Quincy Notre Dame Invitational.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior boys’ basketball player, Kyle Lafary. Kyle had a fantastic week on the court, filling up the stat sheet with some impressive numbers. In four games last week, he averaged 16.5 points per contest. Kyle made 13 total shots from behind the 3-point arc and only missed one free throw.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior boy’s swimmer, Carson Olson. The Streaks dominated the Western Big Six Conference championship meet and Carson was a big part of it. He was a part of two record-setting events at the meet. All told, Carson swam a new school record 500-yard freestyle race, swam a leg on the meet-record setting 400 freestyle relay and won the 200-freestyle event.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior girl’s bowler, Emma Larkin. Emma was the top scorer bowler for the Lady Tornadoes at the recently completed IHSA regional tournament in Danville. She rolled a 6-game score of 941. Emma’s entire team qualified for the sectional meet in Joliet.
