Galesburg Community Chorus Presents World-Renowned Youth Choir

The Galesburg Community Chorus will welcome the Anima Treble and Concert Choruses as well as the Lombard Middle School Choirs for a concert on Friday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 364 E Water St., in Galesburg. Tickets are available at the door as well as online (www.galesburgcommunitychorus.org). Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors (60+), and are free for all students.

Anima – the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus is a world-renowned organization that has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts and Chorus America. Their top choir has performed many times with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and has toured nationally and around the world. The organization includes training choruses for youths beginning in the third grade, focusing on gaining skills in singing, music reading, and musicianship. The Treble and Concert Choruses are made up of third through eighth graders.

Anima’s visit to Galesburg will include performances at Steele and King Elementary Schools as well as an afternoon combined choir rehearsal of Anima and local fourth and fifth graders who will learn and perform music at the evening concert. Also featured on the concert will be 100 fifth and sixth grade students from the choirs at Lombard Middle School, directed by Danna Cory.

Anima’s conductor, Evan Bruno, who will be leading the students, has been working as a music educator for youth in the Chicagoland Area for over a decade. He served as the conductor for Lincoln Park/DePaul Neighborhood Choir from 2014-2022, during which the program nearly doubled in size. Most recently, he served as Faculty Director for Uniting Voices. overseeing a staff of 13 conductors working with 5,000 pupils in 80 schools across Chicago. He is deeply passionate about the social emotional impact of music education.
