Illinois lawmakers are debating a bill that would pay student teachers as they’re learning to teach students.  Under the bill, student teachers would be paid about ten-thousand dollars per semester that they teach.  The proposal would cost the state between 50- and 54-million dollars.  It’s aimed at recruiting more teachers to enter the profession.
