Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 17, 2024:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Lucinda Mendoza. Lucinda got her season off to a great in a home-opening 14-9 win over Stark County. She went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring a run and garnering 3 rbis. Lucinda also pounded out a double and was speedy on the base-paths with three stolen bases.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore baseball player, Ian Leffler. Ian helped out in the batter’s box and on the pitching mound in three wins last week. He earned a pitching win against Havana after going 4.2 innings, giving up only 3 hits, one earned run, with five strikeouts. Offensively, Ian batted .455, leading the team in hits, triples, runs scored and rbis.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is girls track and field freshman, Hailey Manes. Hailey earned a top-20 finish at the highly competitive Galesburg High School Last Chance Invitational at Monmouth College. She placed 18th in a long jump event that included many class 2A and 3A schools. Hailey was 8th in the same event at the Lincoln Trail Conference Indoor Meet at Knox College.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior softball player, Maci McCants. In the season-opening game at Orion, Maci blasted her first two home runs of the year. She ended the day going 2-for-4, with four rbis and two runs scored. For the week, Maci batted .500 with four hits, with each of the four going for extra bases.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Kellen Hook. Kellen got his season off to a great start at the plate in a dominating 17-2 win over Alleman. He went 2-for-3, with both hits going for extra bases. Kellen pounded out a double and smashed his first home run of the season. He drove in four and scored three of the 17 runs that his team totaled on the day.
