With the ongoing construction in the City of Monmouth, alternate routes will be utilized by emergency services and Monmouth Fire Assistant Chief Craig Cozadd reminds drivers to pull to the right or stop in place when those emergency vehicles are approaching:
“To people who are driving, be aware that we have to take alternate routes because of that and we may surprise you where we are coming through more often. We have general routes that we usually go, but with the Harlem contruction, that is one of our big areas that we come through and if it is blocked off, we are going to have to take alternate routes through more residential areas. As I always say, just be cognizen that you can have emergency vehicles coming up behind you, pull to the right if you can. If you can’t pull to the right, just stop, we will come around you. Don’t try to figure out what we are doing, we will figure out what you are doing with you stopping. We may go through the wrong side of an intersection to get through. Don’t run a red light to get out of our way, just stop, everybody just stop moving, and we will weave through.”
As for rural roadways, Assistant Chief Cozadd encourages motorists to slow down, drive with caution, and allow more time to get where you are going as large equipment will be out and about with farmers getting back into the fields.
