IL Bill Would Ban Native American Mascots

A bill Illinois lawmakers are considering would ban the use of Native American mascots in kindergarten through twelfth grade schools.  If approved, the ban would take effect in 2027.  Democratic State Representative Maurice West from Rockford sponsored the bill.  He says his bill would require schools to change their mascots or logos if they feature Native American names.  Supporters of the bill say Native Americans must be in charge of their own narrative.
