The United Red Storm football program has officially found their new leader for the 2024-2025 fall sports season. At yesterday’s monthly meeting, the United school district board of education unanimously hired Andrew Goodwin to serve as head varsity football coach, filling the role that was vacated this winter when former coach David Milroy resigned from his position after 7 years of coaching the Red Storm. Goodwin, a graduate and former player at Eureka College, has spent the past 4 seasons coaching on the Normal Community football staff, specifically as the wide receivers coach.
United high school Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt discussed more about the hire on the WRAM Morning Show on Friday.
Coach Goodwin will look to get the Red Storm back in to the IHSA playoffs this October, a feat United accomplished under Coach Milroy in the 2021 season. In addition to the official hiring of Goodwin, the United school board also passed a measure that would bring back junior high football after 10 years of the program being disbanded.
