The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team had a third-place showing at the NJCAA Division I Central District Championship on Monday and Tuesday at Twin Hills.
The Chargers moved up a spot in the team standings Tuesday after entering the final round a shot back of third place. Sandburg posted a 386 in Monday’s first round and closed with a 399 on Tuesday.
The Chargers’ two-round score of 785 was 11 shots better than North Central Missouri. Sandburg finished behind champion Rend Lake (724) and runner-up John A. Logan (756) in the six-team standings.
Ava Hackman had rounds of 94 and 97 to place 12th as Sandburg’s top individual on the leaderboard. Lauren Minkel, whose first-round 90 paced Sandburg on Monday, finished tied for 13th with a 192 total.
Ellie Wasson‘s second-round 95 led the Chargers on Tuesday. Wasson finished in 16th place with a score of 195 for the tournament. Lainey Jensen and Kylie Fahnestock shared 24th place after posting totals of 207 in the championship.
Metropolitan’s Kate Braden was the individual medalist with a 36-hole score of 170. She beat Crowder’s Cierra Tunley by one shot after the two each posted an opening-round 84.
