Carl E. “Ed” Cassiday II, 68, of Roseville, Illinois, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 21, 1956 in Monmouth, Illinois the son of Carl E. Cassiday and Betty (Orndoff) Cassiday. He was raised in Smithshire and educated in Stronghurst, graduating from Southern High School in 1974.

Carl married Resa Billups on October 26, 1974 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church and they later divorced. He married Vanessa Johnson on August 1,1994 in Pittsfield, Illinois and she survives.

Those left to cherish his memory are; his wife, Vanessa (Johnson) Cassiday; children, Peggy (Bob) Montooth of Little York, Tracy (Eric) Heyveld of Burlington, IA, Carl E. Cassiday, III of Stronghurst; Dylan Montooth, Brandon Montooth, Erin (Dakota Cable) Heyveld, Tara (Cohen Curley) Heyveld and Corben (Wrigley Meagan) Heyveld; brother, John (Ethel) Cassiday of Augusta, Illinois, Jay (Bev) Cassiday of Monmouth. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive and also his many Scout families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernie and Jim; one sister, Nita Kay and one grandson Tyler Montooth.

Carl worked for Wilson’s Foods in Monmouth for many years, Jack & Jill in Stronghurst and the Oak Lane Rehab and Healthcare Center in Stronghurst. Most recently he drove a school van for the Monmouth-Roseville district. He also mowed the church yard of the Roseville Baptist Church, where he was a member, for many years.

Carl was an avid camper and Boy Scout commissioner. He loved attending the Boy Scout Camps every summer at Camp Eastman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the funeral home. A time of visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Ellison Cemetery, Smithshire, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Eastman in Nauvoo, Illinois and left in the care of the funeral home.
