The 2024 IHSA bass fishing sectionals were held last week throughout the state of Illinois. Several local schools got the opportunity to compete at pool 18 of the Mississippi River in New Boston, for a chance to move on to next week’s state final series. Illini West was the team champion at sectionals, pulling in 9.48 pounds of fish. Trailing just behind Illini West to round out the top 3 were West Central and West Hancock. Illini West, West Central, and West Hancock will now advance on to the state final series, with the 4th place Sherrard Tigers going as an alternate. United High School’s bass fishing team also competed in New Boston on May 2nd, placing 9th out of 10 schools at the meet.

United Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp recapped the day for the Red Storm bass fishing team, on the WRAM Morning Show on Thursday.

The bass fishing season wraps up with state championships on May 17th-18th, at Lake Carlyle in Carlyle, Illinois.
