United Red Storm Baseball Season Ends With Close Loss to D-1 Recruit

Share

The United Red Storm baseball season came to an end last Saturday in the class 1A regional finals. The Storm fell to Illini Bluffs and their Division 1 Bradley University pitching recruit Josh Vaughn 2-1. Vaughn, who throws a fastball in the lower 90’s at times, struck out all 21 batter he faced in a regular season game against Peoria Christian and racked up another 18 against United in the regional final. Besides the strikeouts, United was in the ballgame all the way to the very end. Head Coach Ryan Molek, as always, was appreciative of the fight of his ballclub.

United finished the season at (21-9), tying the program record for wins in a season, and ended their Lincoln Trail Conference West Division schedule at (6-2), tying Abingdon-Avon and Mercer County for the division title.
