Arthur M. “Art” Utzinger, age 93, of rural Oquawka, Illinois, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Friday June 14, 2024 at his home.  He was born March 23, 1931 in Canton, Illinois, the son of Ralph and Lucy Mulhatten Utzinger.  On June 24, 1977, he married Jean Hagerty in Galesburg, Illinois.

Art was a graduate of Media High School, in Media, Illinois.  He then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict era.  He had been employed as a printing press operator for Caterpillar in Peoria, and later worked in shipping and receiving for Osco Drugs in Galesburg.  He enjoyed trail riding and horses, especially Appaloosas.  He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church near Raritan.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter: Kathy Burton of Monmouth, IL, four step-daughters: Teana Wall of California, Joyce Graffouliere of Florida, Sandy Davis of Minnesota, and SGM Tammy Coon of Florida, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.  He is also survived by his best friend, Foxy the Corgi. He was preceded in death by one son: Arthur Michael Utzinger, one step-daughter: Toni Smith, one step-son: Robert Furniss, and one brother: Pete Utzinger.

A Rosary will be recited Tuesday, June 18th at 4:30 p.m at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, followed by visitation with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.  The Funeral Mass will at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church near Raritan.  Burial with military rites will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Keithsburg, Illinois.  Memorials have been established for Immaculate Conception Scholarship Fund, and St. Labre Indian School in Montana.  Please visit Art’s obituary at banksandbeals to leave a condolence.
