Beat the Summer Heat

With today being the first day of summer and the recent spike in temperatures, Warren County 911 Coordinator Ken Helms offers tips for those working outdoors:

“If you can avoid working during the heat of the day, as far as in the yard, if you can get your work done either in the early morning or the evening, that would be very beneficial. During the heat of the day if you do have to work, make sure you have plenty of water and take plenty of breaks. One of the things that is often overlooked, a lot of times people get to working in the yard or in the field, they don’t always take their cell phones with them. That cell phone, if you were to have heat exhaustion or some other medical condition to where you needed to call for help, that is one of the things where you really want to have that phone with you.”

As for cooling centers, Helms explains those open if there is a declared emergency and then the Warren County ESDA Director would dictate locations.
