Fireworks: Leave Them to the Professionals

Share

With the 4th of July right around the corner, Monmouth Fire Assistant Chief Pat Spears reminds of fireworks safety:

“The big thing with fireworks, people ask what is legal in Illinois, if it goes boom, you can’t have it in Illinois. That is the easiest way to think about it. Leave it to the professionals. Sparklers are illegal. Those can reach up to 1800 degrees. It can burn a small child really fast. I know they are neat and fun and colorful and exciting to the kids, but they can really give you a bad burn really quick.”

Along with human safety when utilizing fireworks, remember pet safety as well as they find the noises highly stressful. Also, keep the weather in mind. Never use fireworks during a burn ban.
