Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat Offers Tips to Ensure Backyard Pool Safety

While having a backyard pool is fun, it is important to keep safety in mind to prevent any potential harm, reminds Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat:

“Be careful when you have a pool and keep those ladders locked down. Most ladders are equipped with some kind of a slide cover over the top or a way to prevent people from getting in because kids are curious about pools, they will want to sneak into a backyard and hop in and you wouldn’t want something unfortunate to happen. We just want to remind people to put a fence around your pool, keep that ladder locked down, and keep and eye on your pool to keep people out because accidents do happen and we just want to prevent that if we can.”

According to the American Red Cross, the top things to know when having a backyard pool or hot tub is making sure it is secure with appropriate barriers, designate a water watcher, stay in arm’s reach of young children, and install anti-entrapment drain covers and safety release systems to protect against drain entrapment.
