On June 7, 2024 at 10:56am the Macomb/McDonough County 911 Center received a report of a
shooting that occurred at 1501 E. Murray Street in Macomb. Patrol Officers responded to the
scene and located multiple subjects outside the residence. Officers detained two adult males and
found that no one was injured from the shooting. The Macomb Police Department’s
Investigation Division began an investigation and preliminary findings show that two adult males
were involved in a domestic violence situation outside the residence which led to one of the adult
males removing a firearm from a concealed location and discharging one shot at the other adult
male. A search warrant was executed at the property and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun was
recovered.

The two adult males have been identified as Courtney L. Hayes, 33, of Macomb, Illinois, and
Caleb K. Lane, 35, of Sikeston, Missouri. Courtney Hayes was arrested and charged with
Domestic Battery. Caleb Lane was also arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlawful
Discharge of a Firearm. Both individuals are lodged at the McDonough County Jail pending a
detention hearing.

The Macomb Police Department was assisted by the Illinois State Police Troop 4 Patrol and the
McDonough County State’s Attorney’s Office.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
