2024 Warren County Fair Goat Show Summary and Results

Warren County Agricultural Fair Goat Show

The 4-H goat show wrapped up Wednesday afternoon at the Warren County Agricultural Fair. Grayson Tedrow of Quincy, Illinois was the judge for the 2024 show.  He applauds all the Warren County exhibitors for the quality of animals shown at this year’s fair, and shares what stood out in the champion goat.

“When you study them from a functionality and build standpoint, I think that they sort themselves in terms of muscularity, and how they look,” says Tedrow. “When you’re studying them from a marketability standpoint, the credibility of that champion wether it was very good in terms of stoutness and muscularity. I think that he was a little bit lighter weight but I think no doubt a very good one to win. I think he has a lot of upside potential as his show period continues to grow and works on down in the upcoming weeks, but a very good very good one to go ahead and win in both of those respective divisions.”

For some 4-Hers, like Mckay Grohmann, this show marked the end of their 4-H showing career, making this show just that more bittersweet.

“This was my last 4-H show. I’ve shown for the past nine years and you do it you love it and you live it and breathe it and it’s not just a hobby it’s a lifestyle,” says Grohmann. “It’s a lot of hard work- you have to keep practicing and it’s a lot of work at home. A lot of working with your animals so when you go in [the ring], they know you and they’ve will 90% of the time only show for you. And once you have them broke, they’ll do it every time,  even if they’re four years old. My doe today she’s four, and she came back for her last show too. And she just stood there like she always has.”

Grohmann took home the Grand Champion Overall Market and Advanced Showmanship title at the show
