The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are right around the corner, with the first events being held on July 24th. The majority of sports fans are looking forward to watching the 3-weeks of various competition on televison. Monmouth College is taking it one step further, they are hosting a two-week workshop, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, called The Ancient Olympics and Daily Life in Ancient Olympia: A Hands-On History. Several K-12 teachers from around the country are gathering on the campus to study and learn about the ancient Olympic Games and the local life going on around those games. During the workshop, educators will learn how to do the Olympic events in the ancient style. Classics Professor and Chair of the Classics Department at Monmouth College, Bob Simmons, shared on the Thursday WRAM Morning Show, a recent workshop discussion on throwing the discus in ancient times.

The workshop was made possible by a grant from the National Endowment For The Humanities and will run through July 19th. Opening ceremonies for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics are slated for July 26th culminating with the lighting of the Olympic flame.
