Abingdon-Avon High School completed their first year of participating in competitive clay target shooting on July 14th at the USA High School Clay Target League National Championships in Mason, Michigan. A-Town had five shooters able to make the trip north. There were a total of 1734 shooters from around the United States taking part in the event.
After shooting the 19th best score of the preliminaries, senior-to-be, Zylur Combs made the final round of the individual competition. He would end up placing 369th overall. Combs’ teammate and fellow classmate Morgan Tracey had a great weekend in Michigan, as well. She placed 99th out of 257 total female shooters.
The team’s head coach is Brett Postin. Postin owns Smokin’ Clays Gun Range, 2 miles west of Ellisville, Illinois. Postin joined me on the Tuesday WRAM Morning Show and explained how this program got started at A-Town High School and how you can get involved in clay target shooting.
Smokin’ Clays Gun Range is hosting a Student Summer Series of Trap event this Saturday morning at 10am. The range is located 1/2 mile north of the Ellisville FS Plant. It’s $15 for the entry fee, with sign up and practice starting at 9am.
