Phone Scam Circulating The Galesburg Area

Share

On Thursday, the City of Galesburg was made aware of a phone scam circulating our local area. This scam involves the person using a spoofed phone number that matches our police department number of 309-343-9151.
Phone number spoofing is a popular way for scammers and telemarketers to contact you with a false caller ID. The caller was using public information from the City website and identifying themselves as police officers within our department.

THE GALESBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU BY PHONE REGARDING PAYMENT FOR WARRANTS AND/OR CITATIONS. Do not provide any information to the caller and hang up.

“STOP” the internet and phone scams! Be aware and alert.
