Galesburg Community Foundation Turnout Grants

Share

Every year, Galesburg Community Foundation awards grants to regional nonprofits through its annual grant cycle, The Turnout. This year 41 nonprofit organizations who submitted proposals were fully funded for a total of $514,000. Director of Development Sarah Grant has more:

“So, the turnout is funded in a couple different ways. The first way is through what we call our impact fund. So, that’s our unrestricted fund at the Community Foundation and we’ve talked about before about how the foundation sort of generates revenue to be able to give grants and we spend a percentage of our income each year towards granting so there’s a budget from that. Then also of course we talked about we include our donor advisors that’s a large part of it they gave actually like nearly a third of what we granted out through this cycle this time. And then we have a couple other fun time field of Interest funds so you know we have a great request come in and maybe we have a field of interest fund that would match what the grant is asking for we can use those funds as well. I think those are the three fund types that we primarily use for that”

Grants for The Turnout come from the Community Foundation’s unrestricted Impact Fund and Field of Interest Funds along with contributions from generous community donors who hold Donor Advised Funds at the Community Foundation.

“The goal of The Turnout is to empower local nonprofits to tell their story and ask specifically for what they need to make their important work happen. This year represents a significant milestone and reflects the growing generosity of our community and donors, as well as their commitment to empowering our local organizations,” says Jillian Isaacson, Director of Grants and Programs.

Donor Advisors Increase Gifts to Nonprofits

This year, more than $514,000 was awarded to nonprofits, a record-breaking amount for the annual grant cycle. This was in part thanks to individuals and families with donor advised funds at the Community Foundation.

“It’s an honor to connect our donor advisors with causes they care about. The Turnout provides a unique opportunity to make donors aware of the needs of local nonprofits while also collaborating with them to make grants that make our region a great place to live,” says Sarah Grant, Director of Development.
