Janet K. Day, 85, of Abingdon, died at 11:14 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born August 7, 1938, in Avon, the daughter of Otis and Marshaleen (Swise) Myers. She married Richard L. “Dick” Day on May 10, 1957, in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2014, after more than 57 years of marriage.

She is survived by twin sons, Tony (Rhonda) Day of Abingdon and Tim Day of Lewistown; a daughter, Kelly (Steve) Judy of Abingdon; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Richard (Donna) Myers of California, Carol Reiley of Beardstown, Nancy (Kenny) Derenzy of Macomb, Delbert (Dr. Faith) Myers of Naperville, Rosalie (Larry) Wilmot of Havana, and Sherry Myers of Avon. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gary Myers.

Janet was raised and educated in Avon, where she graduated from high school in 1956. She went on to attend Western Illinois University, then earned her nursing degree from Carl Sandburg College with one of the first graduating classes of the nursing program there. She was a nurse supervisor at St. Mary Medical Center from 1974 until retiring in 1999.

In her spare time, Janet enjoyed going to Florida and also gambling. She was a lover of all sports. She and Dick were NASCAR fans who would go to Daytona regularly to watch the Daytona 500. She was a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2024, in the Abingdon Cemetery with her brother-in-law, Larry Wilmot, officiating. There will be no visitation.
