Lawrence N. Taylor, Sr.,89, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his home.

He was born in Lenox Township, Warren County, Illinois, the son of LeRoy and Harriet Carolyn (Hopkins) Taylor. Larry was raised and educated in Kirkwood and attended Coonville Grade School through 8th grade.

He joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War earning the rank of Specialist 4.

 Larry married Nancy Smith on February 14, 1960 in Monmouth, IL.  He then married Irene Smith in October of 1970 in Galesburg, IL.  He later married Patricia Cottrell November 10, 1980 in Galesburg, IL and she survives.

He worked as a hired farm hand for several Kirkwood area farmers.  He then worked at Admiral in Galesburg for over 20 years until his retirement in 1997.  Larry later drove a truck for Iron Horse Trucking and owned/operated a tree trimming business. He loved fishing and spending time with his family.   

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Taylor of Monmouth, IL; his children; Patty (Rod) Fox of Kirkwood, IL, Lawrence N. (Cheryl) Taylor, Jr. of Zachary, LA, Carol M. Taylor of Bushnell, IL, LeRoy Taylor of Monmouth, IL, and Lawrence O. Taylor of Galesburg, IL; three step children; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.  Also surviving is one brother, John David Taylor of Nashua, NH and several nieces and nephews.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory Taylor; one grandson; his brothers, Henry Taylor, Harold Taylor, Loren Taylor, William Taylor; two sisters, Blanche Lee, Frances Payne, and three step children.

A Gathering of Family & Friends will be from 10:00 a.m.-Noon on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be left to the Larry Taylor Memorial Fund and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of the arrangements.
