Nancy Christine “Chris” Roth, 78, of Alexis, Illinois, passed away at 7:10 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. She was born January 17, 1946 in Keokuk, Iowa the daughter of Clarence and Enid (Greenslaugh) Marshall. She was raised and educated in Hamilton, Illinois. She later attended Western Illinois University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and her Masters Degree in Education Leadership.
She married Dick Roth on July 5, 2013, in Hamilton and he survives.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dick Roth of Alexis; one daughter, Marica Cullen of Springfield, Illinois; one son, Robert (Lori) Heagy of Basco, Illinois; granddaughters, Kristin and Emily; brothers, Don (Judy) Marshall of Hamilton and Jim (Helen) Marshall of Aledo, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Marvin Marshall.
Chris started her teaching career in Alexis Elementary School and later was an Elementary School Principal for several Iowa school districts. She was also a building administrator and educator for Quincy Terrace in Quincy, Illinois until her retirement. She was a longtime member of P.E.O. in both Quincy and Chapter G Alexis. She enjoyed reading and quilting. She loved to knit and make crafts and gifts for others. She was a member of the Alexis United Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon for many years. She also played the piano and sang in the church choir for many years. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her granddaughters, whom she loved to spoil.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m , Tuesday July 23, 2024, at the Alexis United Presbyterian Church. A time of visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Candor Cemetery, Seaton, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alexis P.E.O Chapter G, or the Alexis United Presbyterian Church Deacons. Moore Memorial Home, Alexis, is handling the arrangements.
