One Injured in Galesburg Shooting Incident

On July 6, 2024, at about 11:48 p.m., Galesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 000 block of South Cherry Street. Upon arrival, a victim of a gunshot wound was located in the street. Officers provided lifesaving treatment until medical personnel could arrive. The victim was identified as Mario D Washington, age 45. Washington was transported to St. Mary’s ER and then to St. Francis in Peoria. He remains in the hospital receiving treatment.

An investigation into the matter indicates that this incident resulted from a dispute between Washington and another individual. There is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the public. The investigation into this matter is ongoing, and charges are pending.

The Galesburg Police Department would like to express our gratitude to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois State Police for their assistance in this incident.
