On Tuesday, July 16 at approximately 1:26 AM, Galesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting victim at 310 Indiana Ave.  Upon arrival, the victim, identified as Brett Swise, was located with three gunshot wounds.  Officers provided life saving measures and medical personnel responded to the scene.  Swise, age 31, was transported to St. Mary’s ER and then to St. Francis where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

The investigation into the incident indicates it was the result of an argument between Brett Swise and his father, Brian Swise, age 58. During the argument, Brian Swise retrieved a gun and shot his son three times.  Brian Swise then called 911 to report the injuries to his son.

The Galesburg Police Department would like to express gratitude to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this case.

As a result of the investigation, Brian Swise has been arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Brian Swise was booked into the Knox County Jail where he remains in custody awaiting a court appearance.
