Peggy J. Sundell, 84, of Abingdon, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.

Peggy was born August 29, 1939 in Galesburg, IL the daughter of Emery and Lucille (Carroll) Horton.  She was raised and educated in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School.

Peggy married Robert W. Sundell on December 22, 1972 in Ottawa, IL and he survives.

Peggy worked for JB & D Siding in Galesburg as a secretary for several years.  She later worked for Ronk’s Flower Shop in Abingdon.  She also assisted and lent a helping hand to local residents in their homes.

She was of Lutheran Faith.  She was a member the Lake Bracken Country Club and Lake Warren.  She enjoyed reading cookbooks, collecting Beanie Babies, fishing, metal detecting, rock hunting and going to auctions.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Sundell of Abingdon; her daughter Janice (James) Anderson of Roseville, IL; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer (Daniel) Proczko, Matthew (Jennifer Litherland) Anderson and Michael Anderson; her sisters, Mary (Tom) Miller of Abingdon and Marilyn Horton of Gulfport, MS; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Phillip Sundell; 2 brothers, Ronald Horton and Charles Horton; 1 sister, Barbara Lewis.

Cremation has been accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Peggy J. Sundell Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home.
