The 2023-2024 United Red Storm girls basketball team ended the season with an overall record of (16-12). That was the first winning season since the 2010-2011 United squad went (20-9). It was only the 2nd time since that year the program has accrued double digit wins. Three years ago, the Red Storm went (12-16). Current head coach Chris Olson won nine games in his first season in 2022-2023. Despite being one of the youngest teams in the area, this past season’s team started (8-5) and steadily improved throughout the year. The Red Storm were without a single senior on the roster and saw several freshman and sophomores get court time. This winter, Olson hopes to have nearly double digit seniors dressing every night, with each having a vast amount of previous varsity experience with which to draw from. He joined Prairie Communications Sports Director Shawn Temple at the 2024 Halfway to Freezing for Food Drive to talk about it.
The United Girls Basketball Youth Camp will take place next week, Tuesday through Thursday from 12:30-2:00 each day at the Fieldhouse at United High School. Students entering 3rd-6th grade can take part in the camp.
