WIU Athletics Mourns the Loss of Hall of Famer Ed Holzwarth

Western Illinois University Athletics mourns the passing of Edward Holzwarth. Holzwarth passed away earlier this week at the age of 87.

A staple at the weekly Macomb Downtown Athletic Club meetings and Western Illinois University athletic events, Ed was inducted into the Western Illinois University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

“Leatherneck Athletics has lost a true and dedicated fan,” said Paul A. Bubb, Western Illinois Director of Athletics. “To come to a home game and not see Ed will be very different for me, and also for our student-athletes. He will be missed but I also believe he will still be watching over our teams.”

His contributions to Western Illinois Athletics over the years included the Leatherneck Club, the NCAA Sports Accreditation Committee, and selection committees for head coaches. In 2000, Holzwarth received Western Illinois’ Honorary Alumni Award. He’s a past President of the Macomb Downtown Athletic Club and has spent time as a volunteer at McDonough District Hospital.
