Abingdon-Avon Tornado Football Looking to Bounce Back from Injury-Riddled 2023

With temperatures in the lower 80’s, even the upper 70’s at times, high school football coaches couldn’t have asked for better weather to start the football season in the first two weeks of official practice for the upcoming year. But this week, the temps took a turn for the worse with real temps in the upper 90s and heat indexes in the 110s. While teams were able to get much of the prep work done for opening week already, the practice week directly before games is uber-important. Area coaches have altered, or limited, practice times so far this week.

A-Town Tornado football coach Rick Quinn says that certainly hasn’t been ideal.

A-Town is coming off a (2-7) season in which the injury bug hit the squad hard early in the year. The Tornadoes started 2023 (0-5) but won 2 of their last 4 games. A-Town sports a double digit senior class that they hope to take some of that momentum into 2024. The Tornadoes host Princeville on Friday night in week one.
