Donald E. Garrett, Sr. 88, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.

Donald was born January 9, 1936 in Nauvoo, IL, the son of Estel and Emily (Cooley) Garrett.  He was raised and educated in Nauvoo and Dallas City, graduating from Dallas City High School.

Donald served with the United States Army from 1955-58 stationed in Germany.

Donald married Hattie P. Brentise on June 2, 1960 in Little York, IL and she died August 8, 2014.

He worked for at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in West Burlington, Wells Pet Food, retiring from Farmland and later worked for Bob Munson for many years.

He enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, fishing, playing billiards and watching wrestling.  He enjoyed tinkering and working on cars.  Donald was always willing to help anyone that needed a lending hand.

Survivors include his 3 daughters, Donna Koehler of Gilbert, AZ; Stacy Cooper of Biggsville, IL; and Wendy Brown of Monmouth, IL; son, Donald E. (Mary) Garrett, Jr. of Monmouth, IL;12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren; his sisters, Diana Wade, of NE, and Madeline Link of LaHarpe, IL; brother Freddy Garrett, of Donalson, IA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Pammy Jo Garrett, one grandson, J.J. Clayton; his sisters, Bertha Binder, Maxine Smith, Lorene Gillis, Mary Reed and Orpha VanSkike

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday, August 9, 2024 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory with Military Honors being presented at 7:00p.m. Cremation will take place following the gathering.  Memorials may be given to the Donald E.
