At the latest Galesburg City Council meeting, the Board approved the hire of a new attorney to offer full-time assistance for the City, explains City Manager Eric Hanson:

“We hired the firm Davis & Campbell out of Peoria. They have a group of folks that will actually do work for us. We needed more full-time assistance. Our current arrangement was just two days a week and it just wasn’t enough, so this provides an attorney in the office for primarily five days a week, some weeks it will be four, but mostly five days a week. They have a team of folks that deal with a merit of issues that we undertake, from just regular everyday action items that deal with Council, from resolutions and ordinances to ordinance violations and adjudications. We are a little unique in that the City of Galesburg actually does their own adjudications rather than send everything over to the court and then litigation and work comp and all of those things that go in with running an organization the size of the City of Galesburg.”

Hanson informs the City of Galesburg employs 250 full-time individuals, around 500 when factoring in part-time workers, and operates under a General Fund around $30 million.
