Michael G. Hopkins, age 75, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away at 1:48 pm on Tuesday July 2, 2024 at Southeastern Iowa Regional Hospital Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. Michael was born on September 19, 1948 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Glenn A. and Ruth E. Wheeler Hopkins. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and after moving to Biggsville, he attended and graduated from Union High School with the class of 1966. After his schooling he served his country in the United State Army where he attained the rank of Spec 4 serving in Viet Nam. After his return he first married Reita J Sebastian Furnald and later was married to Toni Renee Lox on May 20, 2011 and she is surviving. Michael began work at J. I. Case Implement Company in Burlington, Iowa where he worked his entire career of 32 years, retiring in 2001. Mike is a member and is the present commander of the Biggsville American Legion post 1136. Michael loved racing and was a member of the High Five Racing Team with Steve and Brent Slocum for many years. He liked mowing, doing yard work, and most of all loved his children, grandchildren, and his puppies. Surviving him is his wife, Toni Hopkins of Gladstone, his son, Todd Hopkins and Mindi of West Burlington, Iowa and two daughters, Angie Brunswig and her fiance’ Rob Humphrey of Burlington, Iowa and Ashley West of Oquawka, Illinois. There are five grandchildren, Conner Hopkins, Cameron Hopkins, Eathaun Brunswig, Maxwell Brunswig, and Hannahliece Brunswig. One brother survives, David Hopkins of Lewistown, Illinois. His parents, one son, and his brother precede him in his death.

As were his wishes, cremation is being accorded. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois is in charge of his care. A graveside with Military Honors is planned in the Oquawka Cemetery on Saturday August 17, 2024 at 11:00 am.  A memorial fund for Great River Hospice House is being established.
