Monmouth Police Warn of Voice Impersonation Scams Targeting Residents

Share

Through the use of artificial intelligence, scammers can impersonate the voice of an individual to try and gain personal information. Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer says that one phone scam that has circulated locally is those scammers impersonating local law enforcement:

“The scams going on with the government amenities, like the sheriff’s departments, the police departments calling and requesting funds for either avoiding fines, warrants; they are exploiting for anything. Just remember that no local police department, no local sheriff’s department is ever going to call you and request funds to either try to take care of a warrant or to try and take care of a fine. Those keep coming back and they are using actual deputies voices in those scams as well.”

If you do receive a call like this and are concerned, Investigator Kramer advises hanging up and directly calling the department the person claimed they were from.
