With a new school year beginning, the Regional Office of Education’s Student and Family Engagement Department, or SAFE Department, is there to support local families in making sure students are on track and getting back to the classroom, shares Regional Superintendent Jodi Scott:

“It is so important to get in those habits, it is a life skill too, habits of being there. We have to show up to work everyday to earn a paycheck, we have to do those things, so being there, being on time. Education in the seat, in the classroom is just very different. Kids need to access that and be apart of that. It is so, so important. The learning is different when you are there. When you are there in person, you are doing the work. We are really encouraging students to get off to a good start. It is all about developing those habits, those really good habits. If we start from the beginning and set a goal to be there everyday and be there on time, that will continue throughout the year.”

The ROE has also launched the Alternative Learning Opportunity Program in their local school districts, which will help identify and support students with any barriers that may be hindering learning.
