Mrs. Marcella Y. Dowers, 99, of Galesburg, Illinois died 10:20 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Hawthorne Inn in Galesburg.

She was born December 17, 1924, in Noblesville, Indiana to Oliver K. and Annie (Walton) Young.  She married Verne W. Dowers January 29, 1944, in Galesburg.  He preceded her in death on April 20, 1998. 

Surviving are two sons, Timothy W. (and Anne) Dowers of Galesburg and John C. (and Vickie) Dowers of Galesburg, three sisters, Mary Ellen White of Bloomington, Indiana, Alice Fultz of Bloomington, Illinois, and Elizabeth Taylor of Miamisburg, Ohio, four grandchildren, David (and DeAnna) Dowers of Galesburg, Brandi (and Mike) Brent of Smithshire, Illinois, Tammie (and Carlos) Cabalu of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Julie (and Brad) Erickson of Galesburg, eight great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by, her parents, and two brothers, Robert Young and Howard Young. 

Marcella graduated from Noblesville High School in 1942.  She worked at Burgland Durg Store in Galesburg and retired after 25 years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg where she was very active in her church.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends playing cards in her Bridge club.  She was active in Boy Scouts and other school activities with her sons and grandchildren.  She was creative and enjoyed painting and decoupage. 

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.  Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Deb Epley officiating.  The burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
