Share

It’s week 2 of the high school football season. Monmouth-Roseville got their year started with a 50-14 win over the new school in the Three Rivers Conference, the Mercer County Golden Eagles. Mercer County actually led the game 8-6 at the half before the Titans exploded for 38, 3rd quarter points. As expected, Monmouth-Roseville was run-heavy in the win, rushing for 346 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground. Senior Payton Thompson led all rushers with 159 and two scores. Quarterback Andy Myers rushed for 3 touchdowns. The Titans head to Orion High School to take on the Chargers tonight. Despite having just 23 players in their entire football program, the Chargers got their season off to a great start as well in week one. Orion blasted out to a 36-14 lead at halftime and went on for a 42-14 win over the Spring Valley Hall/Putnam County co-op. Quarterback Kale Filler threw for over 315 yards and running back Aiden Fisher rushed for 90 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Monmouth-Roseville head coach Jeremy Adophson says, similar to week one, the Titans will try to wear the Chargers down with their depth.

We’ll have the Monmouth-Roseville/Orion game tonight on Sunny 97.7 WMOI with the pregame show starting at 6:35, kickoff is set for 7:00.

The United Red Storm got their new era underway with a loss to Bureau Valley 48-21. The Red Storm only trailed that one 14-7 at the half. United’s Mason Giddings rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries and Nolan Jenks passed for 143 yards and two touchdowns, both to Zeke Clark. This week, the Red Storm hit the road to Rushville/Industry High School. The Rockets lost at Stark County 27-6. Rushville/Industry rushed for 197 total yards, only throwing one pass the entire game. New United head coach Andrew Goodwin says he’s been preparing his club for an expected very physical match up.
